Androcur serious cases of tumor development observed during pregnancy well after stopping treatment - LCI
HEALTH - This medication, produced by the Bayer laboratory and used to relieve certain forms of endometriosis increases the risk of tumor in the brain when taken for a long time and in high doses.
A new study reveals that four new cases have been discovered. These are serious cases of development of intracranial tumors occurring during pregnancy several years after the end of Androcur. This drug from the Bayer laboratory and its generics can multiply up to 20 (after 5 years of treatment) and even more, the probability of tumors (meningiomas) in women treated for a long time and in high doses, had shown a study of health insurance made public in August 2018.
« La survenue et la sévérité de ces cas (pendant la grossesse, ndlr) pose la question de la conduite à tenir chez les femmes envisageant une grossesse suite à un traitement par Androcur ou un de ses génériques« , relève l’ANSM. « La progestérone produite massivement lors de la grossesse augmente la taille du méningiome déjà présent même si l’Androcur est arrêté« , explique à l’AFP la Dr Isabelle Yoldjian.
