Warning: as on television sometimes in health emissions, where we are told “attention surgery images”, here we could say the same thing.
This book is not to be read before an operation, or in difficult operations.
However, in order to know the life of those who save us, when in our life, everything is fine or almost, yes, so we can read it!
The night guard (repair the caregivers) of Professor Laurent Thines, book of a neurosurgery professor, collection-testimony. The life of a caregiver trying to survive a universe still medieval, both fascinating, complex, beautiful and violent.
It is very strange this association of the neurosurgeon word with that of a poet. Doctor and writer, it's very common. Neurosurgeon and writer, it is already rarer.
This book made me think a little about Martin Winckler's "Sachs disease", just a book, it seems to me, a beautiful book on the suffering of caregivers. A glossary to find your way into the medical terms (including “meningioma”, but not only ... I leave you the surprise!).
By reading this book, I also thought of the young neurosurgeon who committed suicide at the end of 2017, in Grenoble. It's been a month that I had been operated on, still bathed in the atmosphere of a neurosurgery service, and so stunned. So much investment for these studies and so much suffering to reach this gesture. I know, is it commonplace to say that, but who talks about it now? We are indignant at the time, and life continues.
What you need love in life outside the hospital to endure it all!
Patients are willing to see the dedication, sometimes until the sacrifice of their neurosurgeon, but they fear seeing his suffering. And even if the link that binds us to “our” neurosurgeon is that of recognition, we have a debt to him that we can never mop up, whatever we do. The brain is the most intimate, by far! You can live without sex, without arms, without a leg, with an artificial heart, grafted lungs, but not without brain. And in good summer of walking, it's better.
Laurent Thinès has beautiful formulas like: "taking refuge in the galleries of his courage"., "Another dear of his flesh", "And I, a pale shooting star, who will save me? ».
A book that illuminates, and all light, even if it hurts at first, ends up doing good.
