Lutéran® and Lotényl® are two progestin drugs used to process disorders linked to a progesterone deficit. They are therefore prescribed during the premenopause period to combat symptoms such as irregular cycles or premenstrual syndrome, in the event of abundant rules due to a fibroma or, again, to treat endometriosis.
Also used as contraceptives
Lutéran® and Lotényl® are also used as contraceptives when estrogening is contraindicated.
But these two drugs have a proven mildew of meningioma, a benign tumor of the meninges (the membranes that protect the brain and the spinal cord).
This type of tumor can cause headache, sight or language disorders, dizziness, memory loss, etc. The higher the dose, the duration of prolonged treatment and the age of the advanced patient, the greater the risk, alerts the drug agency (ANSM) which, for the moment, asks healthcare professionals to inform patients about the risk of meningiom and to reassess the relevance of the treatment as well as its dosage.
