We have received in the association's mailbox a testimony, short but very interesting, because it is representative of a situation to know for all women who have one or more meningiomas and who take Androcur , or a progestin (Lotéran lyutenyl, etc.)
After more than 20 years of treatment by Androcur (and previously Diane 35), an MRI made in November 2019 revealed many meningiomas (14), none of which required intervention despite the proximity of one of them with the left optic nerve. A new MRI, 6 months later showed that the end of the Androcur and any hormonal treatment had resulted in a volume decrease of all meningiomas.
IMPORTANT
Since we know that the regression of meningiomas has been possible when you stop treatment, neurosurgeons propose first intention to postpone any surgical gesture if the clinical situation allows, in the event of discovery of multiple meningiomas or not associated with the taking of Androcur (or Lutéran Lotényl, Progestatives).
However, some people may have taken Androcur (or another progestogen) and yet see their meningiomas continue to grow (5% of cases, according to our estimate, we expect studies to confirm or deny this figure). The future of meningioma cannot be predicted 100% even if the treatment is stopped.
