Rapid growth of atypical meningiomal in combination with the use of cyproterone acetate (androcur): case report

androcur meningioma studies

Méningiomes are extremely common intracranial tumors. When we classify them according to their histological aspect, the majority (around 80 %) are benign grade 1 tumors according to the World Health Organization (WHO). A low percentage of meningiomas are atypical (WHO, grade 2) or anaplastic (WHO, grade 3), upper grade tumors with aggressive clinical and pathological characteristics. There is a well -recognized bond between the growth of meningiomas during periods of high movement of female sex hormones; This was demonstrated during pregnancy or with the administration of exogenous synthetic hormones. This link is due to a high proportion of meningiomas expressing progesterone (up to 70%) and estrogen receptors (30%).
