Hormonal therapies and meningioma: is there a link?
This article makes it possible to realize that the Androcur/Progestifs-Méningiomes link has been the subject of studies which have not made it possible to update and even less quantify it.

Summary
Context : The etiology of meningiomas is largely unknown, although we have suggested that hormones play a role. Methods: A cohort study was carried out to assess the hormonal factors associated with meningioma. Patients (12-89 years old) having received a first meningioma diagnosis (January 1996-June 2008) were identified from the primary healthcare database of the Health Improvement Network UK (Health improvement network in the United Kingdom) and were appeared by age and sex with witnesses (n = 10,000) of the same cohort. The rating reports (RC) were calculated following an analysis of the nested castemooks using unconditional logistical regression .
Results: A total of 745 patients with meningioma were identified in a study population of 2,171,287 people. No significant increase in the risk of meningioma has been found in users of oral contraceptives (RC: 1.15; IC: 0.67-1.98), substitutive hormone therapy (RC: 0.99; CI: 0.73-1,35) or cyproterone acetate ( CPA; RC: 1.51; 0.33-6.86) compared to non-users. The risk of meningioma is significantly higher in men who consume androgenic analogues (RC: 19.09; CI: 2.81-129.74.74) and in high-dose (RC: 6.30; CI: 1.37-28.94) compared to the non-users, but there are only three cases of consumption of these substances. No significant association was found between meningioma and prostate, breast or genitals cancer.
Conclusions : Our results do not confirm the role of the use of exogenous hormones by women in the development of meningioma. The risk in men has only been observed with high -dose and short -term therapy (<1 year).
Impact : Although cancers and hormonal therapies are not associated with meningioma in women, the risk in men requires more in -depth research.
